The latest available figures show that there were around 1700 Drug Related deaths in the UK in the year ending Dec 2003.   Some of these deaths could have been avoided if quicker and more effective responses were available at the time.  Overdose is a process and not an event and timely action can save lives.  Knowing the symptoms of overdose from various drugs, knowing what to do, and just as importantly, what NOT to do, can mean the difference between life and death.  There are a numbers on ’myths’ that surround what to do in the event of an overdose, some of them can be more harmful than helpful..  There are now recognised evidence based procedures to follow in the event of overdose and these form the basis of this session.
